More Footpath Photos

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

GR-2007-09-30 036 Have uploaded more footpath photos like the last post.

They were all done on my Ricoh GR and were taken by placing the camera on the footpath (or road) - a nice alternative to a tripod.

Squiggly Lights

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

GR2007-09-30 043I’ve started taking a lot more night photos by placing the camera on the ground. It leads to quite interesting textures in the foreground and also means I can take photos where usually I would need a tripod. This particular one was taken last night. Unfortunately a cop car spied me squatting in the middle of the road and drove up. I tried to casually stand up and wave my camera to show what I was doing (note light squiggles on photo). He wound his window down and I said, “I was just taking a photo…”. He says, “What, from down there?!”. Me: “Um. Yes”. He responded, “What an odd thing to do!” , and drove off. And I suppose it is an odd thing to do… Ah well.

nzherald.jpegInteresting. Dad just sent this on…

Three nomiees for Timeout “..in the “Best Coffee Bar” category are Kiwi cafes - Flat White, Sacred and Bullet.”

Hope Flat White wins it because Sacred can’t make good coffee :)

Followup (25/09): Fernandez & Wells won it

Summer Holiday

Sunday, September 9th, 2007

FX10-2007-08-10b 060 I’ve finally posted my summer holiday photos - it was a week in Wales and Cornwall (6-10 August).

I’ve uploaded a lot of the “people” photos onto Facebook and have tried to keep these mostly the “arty” photos, though a few boring landscape ones have crept in purely for sentimental reasons. My favourite of the lot is this Stonehenge one which I’ve changed to B&W and increased shadows on a wee bit.

Fernandez & Wells

Friday, September 7th, 2007

GR2007-09-07 003I went back to Sacred Cafe a few times, but they were consistently poor quality (and the last time they ripped me off). So, upon Rudy’s recommendation I went to Fernandez & Wells. I first went to their deli which looked amazing - big spanish hams other meats, cheese and various other things including takeaway paninis. I was directed to the cafe around the corner which was very plain looking (Monmouth-like decor - not surprising considering that’s where their coffee comes from). Friendly staff, overpriced coffee, but I did get a very good coffee (and a particularly good dark chocolate biscuit)… I’ll stick with these guys till Flat White come back.
