Recently Lydia gave me a Precision fluid air coffee roaster (pictured) for my engagement present (very cool present) I’ve trialled it twice so far and am impressed. She also gave me some green beans from Whittards (Jamaican Blue Mountain - they charged her heaps for them so don’t get beans from there).
The first roast, I set it to option 4, let it go to the first crack and then stopped it a few minutes afterwards (not very exact, but the recommendation Jamaican Blue Mountain apparently requires a light roast). Approx 12 hours later I tried it in Lydia’s coffee plunger (not the best way to try it I admit). It was rather tasteless. However, we tried mixing it with Illy coffee the next day and it tasted superb (much better than standalone Illy).
The next roast was less successful - I tried setting 3 and it didn’t even roast till the 1st crack. I put it on a bit longer, but the resulting coffee when ground was rather khaki looking and the filter coffee tasted like mud.
I look forward to further experimentation.
